PURPOSE: A method and an apparatus for processing video signals are provided to enable motion compensation based on overlapped blocks by adaptively applying the coefficient of a window. CONSTITUTION: An overlapped window coefficient is extracted from video signal bit stream(S160). The window is applied to one or more reference areas within a reference picture using overlapped window coefficient(S170). By multiply overlapping one or more reference areas to which the window is applied, a reference block is obtained(S180). The current block obtains a predictor by using the reference block. The overlapped window coefficient is changed according to sequence, frame, slice, or block.
