PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve a problem wherein thicknesses of a liquid crystal layer existing on a reflecting face formed with irregularities are different, in response to irregular shapes, an optical path difference is thereby generated in a light which pass through the liquid crystal layer in response to the irregularities, and wherein coloring caused by retardation of the liquid crystal layer is generated as a result thereof.
SOLUTION: A reflection display region R, formed with a recess 17S covered by a reflecting layer 18, functions as a region assembled in, with the so-called "diffraction optical element (DOE)" exhibiting optical diffraction phenomenon, and serves thereby as a light irregular-reflecting region, to improve the viewing angle characteristics of display. An area formed with the recess 17S is brought into a state which is regarded as being substantially flat, since the depth along a direction perpendicular to a flat face of the recess 17S that exhibits the optical diffraction phenomenon becomes a smaller value, as compared with the thickness DD of the liquid crystal layer 40. The thickness of the liquid crystal layer 40 becomes substantially constant as a result thereof. Optical characteristics, such as, the coloring caused by the retardation of the liquid crystal layer is thereby restrained from shifting.
COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT |
