<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for recording information on an operating status of an image forming apparatus which stores a record on the information on the operating status for a long period of time by using a memory of a relatively small capacity. <P>SOLUTION: When an electric power source is supplied in a printing apparatus (501), data values on various counting information collected by a printer engine part of the printing apparatus are initialized to be zero (502). Next, when a phenomenon standby state arises (503), and a variety of accidents occur, the distribution of processing is performed by the generation phenomenon (504). In this distribution, in the case that such an phenomenon as the completion of the initialization of an engine occurs, the acquisition of an engine initial state is requested (505). In the case that such a phenomenon as the responding of an engine state, processing for storing the engine state is performed (506). In the case that such a phenomenon as the generation of an engine error, processing for the engine error is performed (507). In the case that such a phenomenon as the confirmation of interchanging an article of consumption, the processing of initialization at counting the article of consumption is performed (508).
