The installation has a guiding device (16) e.g. bar, and a maintaining device (10) e.g. isostatic chimney, forming a vertical support on which a lower face (5a) of a neck label (5) is placed. A mechanical button (14) permits rapprochement of the guiding and maintaining devices, so that a neck (4) of a container (2) is located radially at a contact of the guiding and maintaining devices. The maintaining and guiding devices have an internal face (10b) and an internal face, respectively, turned radially towards a reference axis (30), where the axis is fixed with respect to the maintaining device. An independent claim is also included for a method for placing a cap on a neck of a container.
