<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reactor containment vessel which is relatively safe even though a severe accident is assumed and can curb the rise in construction costs and a nuclear power plant using the reactor containment vessel. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The reactor containment vessel includes a primary reactor containment vessel 36, a secondary reactor containment vessel 42 accommodating the primary reactor containment vessel 36, an operation floor space 50 formed by surrounding the upper part of an operation floor 47 with side walls 48 and a ceiling 49, the outer periphery 44 of the secondary reactor containment vessel 42 where the space is substituted with nitrogen and a first isolation-communication switching means 45 placed in a passage connecting a gas phase part of a wet well 18 and the outer periphery 44 of the secondary reactor containment vessel 42. The first isolation-communication switching means 45 allows a gas to flow from the gas phase part of the wet well 18 to the outer periphery 44 of the secondary reactor containment vessel 42 when a set differential pressure is reached, and the secondary reactor containment vessel 42 holds the gas inside itself without releasing the gas outside and prevents hydrogen from detonating even if the gas contains hydrogen of a concentration exceeding a detonation limit.
