<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To select a plurality of internal signals, output a monitor signal with a smaller number of external terminals, and easily select the internal signal to be monitored, in an integrated circuit and a monitor signal output method thereof. Ž<P>SOLUTION: When the internal signal output from each functional circuit 11 inside the integrated circuit 10 is output to an external device 20 and monitored, a monitor selecting section 12 selects the internal signal to be monitored, converts it from a parallel signal into a serial signal, and outputs a monitor signal. In addition to the monitor signal, an identifier information TAG showing a format of conversion from the parallel signal to the serial signal is output from the external terminal of the integrated circuit 10. The external device 20, based on the identifier information TAG output from the external terminal of the integrated circuit 10, determines the format of conversion from the parallel signal to the serial signal with a serial parallel number-of-conversion determining section 21, and converts the monitor signal from the serial signal to the parallel signal and outputs it according to the format with a monitor developing section 22.
