<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus capable of maintaining accuracy of object detection even during a zoom operation and executing stable focus adjustment, exposure control or face frame display or the like on the basis of a result of the object detection. Ž<P>SOLUTION: When executing zoom control in a state of operating an object detection function, the zoom control is executed at a driving speed of a zoom lens lower than a prescribed speed so that a picked up image may not flow during the zoom operation and the accuracy of the object detection may not be lowered.
