PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic switch of a bipolar detection responding type for which one kind of magnetic detection element suffices, in particular, and of which the control part can be constituted of a common circuit. SOLUTION: The magnetic switch has the magnetic detection element A1 of which the electric resistance value varies in relation to an external magnetic field from the direction of a sensitivity axis and the control part 16 which outputs a detection signal. The magnetic detection element A1 has an element part 10 having a constitution wherein first and second magnetic layers being variable in magnetization in relation to the external magnetic field are stacked in lamination with a nonmagnetic layer between, and is constituted of one kind of magnetic detection element of which the electric resistance value varies in relation to the respective field intensity variations of the external magnetic field in a first direction out of the directions of the sensitivity axis, and of that in a second direction being reverse to the first direction. The control part 16 can output each detection signal, by the common circuit, based on sensor outputs obtained respectively from the field intensity variation of the external magnetic field from the first direction, and from that of the external magnetic field from the second direction.
