PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image recording method and apparatus duplex image recording of high image quality at a high speed (high throughput). SOLUTION: A recording medium is transported to a one-sided printing path 1110 in an image marking engine (IME)1100. By applying a predetermined pressure to the medium while moving it at a predetermined speed in the nip of the IME 1100, an ink image on a corresponding transfer face is transferred to a surface of the medium. The medium is then inverted back to front by using, for example, an inverter 1114, and then transported to a one-sided printing path 1160 in another IME 1150. By applying a predetermined pressure equal to or different from the predetermined pressure to the medium while moving it at a predetermined pressure equal to or different from the predetermined speed in the nip of the IME 1150, an ink image on a corresponding transfer face is transferred to a surface of the medium. In this single passage type duplex recording, for example, in the IME 1110, a transfer pressure roller is not brought into contact with the transfer face but, in IME 1150, it is brought into contact with the transfer face.
