<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reflective display device whose power consumption is low and which can perform handwriting display at a practical speed. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The display device includes a display controller for controlling a driving circuit which applies a write current to an electrochemical display element per period of a frame in a first write mode or a second write mode, and the number of times of frames in which the write current is applied to the electrochemical display element in the first write mode is smaller than that in the second write mode.
