Provided are a method of producing a heat transfer plate having high heat exchange efficiency and also having high strength at a joint, and the heat transfer plate. The method of producing the heat transfer plate (1) has an insertion step for inserting a heat medium pipe (16) into a groove (8) formed in a bottom surface of a lid groove (6) open to a surface (3) of a base member (2), a lid groove closing step for placing a lid plate (10) on the lid groove (6), and a final welding step for applying friction stir welding to a butt section (V, V) between a side wall (5a, 5b) of the lid groove (6) and a side face (13a, 3b) of the lid plate (10) by moving a rotation tool along the butt section. In the final welding step, a plastic fluid material (Q) produced by fluidizing both the base member (2) and the lid plate (10) by the use of friction heat is caused to flow into a gap formed around the heat medium pipe (16). |
