PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of preparing alkoxymagnesium capable of obtaining a solid catalyst component suitable for preparing a polymer having a high bulk density and a small amount of fine particles without decreasing capabilities such as the stereospecificity of a resulting polymer and its polymerization activity, a solid catalyst component for polymerizing olefins wherein the alkoxymagnesium is employed, and a catalyst. SOLUTION: The method of preparing alkoxymagnesium by causing metallic magnesium and an alcohol to react with each other in the presence of a halogen-containing compound while agitating them to form solid alkoxymagnesium, is characterized by changing the temperature condition in the midst of the reaction to another temperature condition whereby the reaction temperature is increased.
