<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image management system, which can prevent overlap of image data to be accumulated in a recording area. Ž<P>SOLUTION: In the image management system, comparison data of images read in the past is accumulated in an image data base 410. When a scanner device newly reads image data, comparison data is created based on the read image data, the created comparison data is compared with the comparison data accumulated in the image database 410. When it is determined that image data matched thereto is present, that effect is reported to a user, whereby the overlap of image data to be accumulated is prevented.
