The device (1) has a rotative cylindrical drum (2) with slots (8) and separated bars (3) that are extended parallel to its axis. A supplying unit supplies liquid e.g. water, against an interior face of the drum under. The supply unit is tangential to the interior face of the cylindrical drum and in a rotation direction (R) for forming a liquid strip on the interior face of the drum. A driving auxiliary unit (20) drives fibers cooperating with the drum so that short fibers passing through the drum are evacuated and long fibers are held by the bars and evacuated. An independent claim is also included for a method for separating fibers e.g. cellulosic fiber, contained in liquid.
