<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lighting system appropriately holding a discharge tube while avoiding increase of the number of components irrespective of increasing luminance using a discharge tube with a bent part and a display device using this lighting system. <P>SOLUTION: The lighting system 2 with a light guide plate 7 includes first and second discharge tubes 8, 9 respectively having linearly formed straight tube parts 8a-8c, 9a-9c and bent parts 8d, 8e, 9d, 9e and holders 10-13 holding the first and second discharge tubes 8, 9 at predetermined positions relative to the light guide plate 7.
