<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical pickup for improving a rim intensity and obtaining an appropriate optical coupling efficiency upon recording and reproducing operation, and also to provide an optical disk drive using the optical pickup. <P>SOLUTION: The optical pickup is equipped with: a light source 31 for emitting a light beam of a predetermined wavelength; an objective lens 32 for converging the light beam emitted from the light source 31 on the optical disk; a photodetector 42 for receiving a light beam reflected on the optical disk to be detected by a photodetecting section; and a light attenuation adjusting device 33 which is prepared between the light source 31 and the objective lens 32 and divided into multiple areas within an effective diameter of the passing light beam and adjusting the incident light beam by reducing the light quantity with an attenuation factor according to the passing area. The light attenuation adjusting device 33 varies a light intensity distribution so as not to overlap a push-pull area of the photodetecting section regardless of a lens shift of the objective lens 32, by the multiple areas. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT |
