摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process for etching a porous titanium foam or a porous titanium alloy foam. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A clean dry foam article is immersed in an acidic aqueous solution containing about 0.5 to about 5 vol.% HF and about 5 to about 20 vol.% HNO<SB>3</SB>for a time long enough to attain a desired surface roughness. The etched foam is heated to remove the residual titanate. According to this etching process, the foam can keep suitable mechanical properties because the etchant can increase the porosity on the surface of the foam but not penetrates perfectly into the inside of the foam. This etching process increases also the coefficient of friction of the foam surface.
