<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable information terminal capable of conducting an appropriate charging control that is suitable to charging environment. Ž<P>SOLUTION: In the portable information terminal 1, a chargeable battery 3 is housed in a device body 2, and a connecting section 50, connecting a plurality of kinds of chargers having different configurations and applications is fitted to the device body 2. The portable information terminal 1 has a connection detecting means for detecting connection between the connecting section 50 and the charger, a discriminating means for discriminating the application of the charger subjected to connection detection and a charging control means for implementing charging control of the battery 3, and a charging control system is determined for every application of the charger. When the connection of the charger by the connection detecting means is detected, charging the battery 3 is controlled by the system corresponding to the application of the charger discriminated by the discriminating means.
