PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a permanent-magnet synchronous motor wherein it is possible to maintain the strength of a rotor core and yet enhance the motor performance. SOLUTION: The permanent-magnet synchronous motor includes a rotor having: a rotor core 20 formed by laminating multiple steel plates and permanent magnets 30 inserted and fixed in magnet holes 21b, 22b formed in the rotor core 20 so that they are extended in the axial direction. The rotor core 20 is constructed by laminating multiple first steel plates 21 comprised of a high-strength member; and multiple second steel plates 22 comprised of soft magnetic material. The magnet holes 21b, 22b are formed in such a shaped that a hole 40 is formed on both sides of the individual permanent magnets 30, inserted and fixed in the magnet holes 21b, 22b, in the circumferential direction.
