[Also in Divisions B1 and C5] Unsaturated nitriles are made by reacting an olefin, ammonia and oxygen in the presence of a catalyst of formula Fe a Sb b Me c Te d X e O f in which Me represents V, Mo or W; X represents P or B and a = 10, b = 5-60, c = 0À01-1, d = 0À05-5, e = 0-1 and f = 22-151. Similarly, with omission of ammonia the reactants yield unsaturated aldehydes. Examples describe the preparation of acrylonitrile and methacrylonitrile and acrolein and methacrolein. |
