1,208,440. Disazo dyes. YORKSHIRE DYEWARE & CHEMICAL CO. Ltd. 30 Dec., 1968 [30 Dec., 1967], No. 59259/67. Heading C4P. The invention comprises water-insoluble disazo dyes of formula wherein R<SP>1</SP> is alkyl, R<SP>2</SP>, R<SP>3</SP>, R<SP>6</SP> and R<SP>7</SP> are H, halogen, alkyl or alkoxy, R<SP>4</SP> and R<SP>5</SP> are H, halogen or alkyl, R<SP>8</SP> is an unsubstituted amino or hydroxy group and at least one of R<SP>2</SP> and R<SP>3</SP> and at least one of R<SP>6</SP> and R<SP>7</SP> is H. They are prepared by coupling a diazotized 4-nitro- or -acetylamino-aniline with a phenol, alkylating the hydroxy group, converting the nitro or acetylamino group to amino, diazotizing and coupling with a phenol or aniline. The dyes are used to colour hydrophobic fibres, in particular polyester, cellulose triacetate and synthetic polyamide materials in yellow to orange shades.
