1,208,714. Resonance cells. THOMSONCSF. 4 Feb., 1969 [5 Feb., 1968], No. 6018/69. Heading G6P. In an optically pumped, molecular resonance cell, the vapour pressure is maintained low, at a given temperature, by the alloying of a further metal with the alkali metal forming the cell vapour. The alloying metal is one which does not disturb the spin function of the alkali atoms, the resonance line of which is to be detected. An alloy of rubidium and potassium may be used with a gas atmosphere in the cell of argon, neon or helium.
