1,208,326. Production of dichlorophen. BDH CHEMICALS Ltd. 15 April, 1969 [23 April, 1968], No. 19151/68. Heading C2C. An aqueous solution of the mono-sodium salt of dichlorophen is produced by extracting an acid slurry of dichlorophen in a mixture of water, sulphuric acid and an aliphatic watermiscible alcohol with a water-immiscible organic solvent for dichlorophen which is inert to the other components of the slurry, separating the resulting solvent and acid liquid layers, washing the solution of dichlorophen in the organic solvent free from dissolved sulphuric acid, extracting the dichlorophen with aqueous sodium hydroxide solution and stripping the resulting aqueous solution of the mono-sodium salt of dichlorophen of any organic solvent. The preferred water-immiscible organic solvent is din-butyl ether.
