Optically active ethenylphenyl-alcohols of formula (I) or its mirror image, wherein Ris unsubstituted or substituted heteroaryl and Ris phenyl or substituted aryl, are prepared by asymmetric hydrogenation of the corresponding ketones applying hydrogen gas in the presence of specific platinum metal complex catalysts.
