<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a means for preventing the occurrence of short circuit in the presence of needle-shaped active material particles such as whiskers in an electrode in an electrochemical device such as a lithium ion secondary battery. <P>SOLUTION: The electrochemical device includes a laminate formed by laminating a positive electrode, an electrolyte layer formed by holding an electrolytic solution in a separator and a negative electrode in this order. At least one of the positive electrode and the negative electrode contains the needle-shaped active material particles.
