<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for preventing the occurrence of pigmentation after ultraviolet irradiation without performing a physical treatment method that imposes heavy burden on the skin such as a laser or chemical peeling treatment. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The method for preventing the occurrence of pigmentation after ultraviolet irradiation comprises using a skin care preparation for external use comprising (1) a component selected from among triterpene acid, a derivative thereof and/or a salt thereof and (2) at least one or two or more substances selected from the group consisting of extracts of crude drug plants exhibiting a skin-whitening effect.
