<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an original reading device and an original reading program that facilitate a user to clean a reading face. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The original reading device includes: a reading means whose reading face for reading an original is arranged at an original conveyance path side; a shielding means movably arranged to a shielding position where the reading face is shielded and an exposure position where the reading face is exposed, and configured to shield the reading face at the shielding position; a detection means for detecting the dirt of the reading face; and a control means for controlling the shielding means not to be moved to the shielding position when the dirt of the reading face is detected by the detection means.
