<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for demodulating and decoding a video signal coded in different standard formats in a digital signal processing field. <P>SOLUTION: An adaptive receiver has an adaptive decoder 12 for generating decoding output data from an encoded video signal for satellite, terrestrial, or cable transmission. The device has adaptive decoders 50, 60 for generating first decoding output as a function of a code rate selected from a plurality of code rates. Also, the device has adaptive deinterleavers 80, 85, 90 for deinterleaving the first decoding output according to a deinterleave function selected from a plurality of deinterleave functions. The device also has an output signal processor 125 for processing deinterleave output data to generate decoded output data.
