PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To further improve contrast to thereby improve the image quality, although the conventional plasma display is adapted to perform ramp setup because rectangular wave resetting causes increase in electrical discharge intensity so that the background light emission is bright. SOLUTION: In a driving method for a plasma display using the ramp setup, the maintenance time t1 of achievable potential of the ramp setup is controlled according to the display rate of an image signal.
