Coating comprises (40-65%) vegetable oils, (25-45%) of a non-ionic emulsifying agent and (5-15%)of an ionic emulsifying agent (acting as antistatic agent). The oil is pref. a triglyceride of lauric acid (I) from coconut or palm kernel oil. The non-ionic emulsifying agent may be an ethylene oxide copolymer with (hydrogenated) castor oil. (II) The ionic emulsifier is pref. 1-hydroxy-methyl-2-heptadecenyl imidazoline (III). The coatings are used as a processing aid during melt spinning of synthetic fibres (e.g. polyamides and polyesters) to minimise breakages during subsequent stretching. Thus a 5% aqs. emulsion of a mixt. of 65 pts. I, 25 pts II and 10 pts III was used to coat nylon-6 fibres after melt spinging, before stretching.
|
