The method involves positioning an open rotor housing (2) of an open-end spinning unit (1) at a cleaning position during cleaning. Gaseous water is directed on a fiber collecting groove (27) of a spinning rotor (3) by a cleaning element. The gaseous water with a temperature greater than 150 degrees Celsius and a vapor pressure greater than 5 bar, is applied to the fiber collecting groove. An independent claim is included for a device for carrying out a spinning rotor cleaning method.
