It is intended to provide a fucoidan-derived low molecular compound with a specified structure and function in which problems regarding absorption property, antigenicity, homogeneity, anti-coagulant activity and the like of fucoidan, which occur when fucoidan being a sulfated polysaccharide with an extremely high molecular weight is developed as a pharmaceutical or a health food, are solved and which has a good taste. By analyzing low molecular compounds obtained by the acid hydrolysis of fucoidan, fucoidan oligosaccharides (I) to (XII) were identified. Further, it was found that the oligosaccharides have an action of preventing obesity or suppressing blood glucose elevation by inhibiting the absorption of carbohydrate or lipid by inhibiting α-glycosidase or lipase. |
