A high efficiency induction motor producing high starting torque without deteriorating the fitting strength of shrink fitting, and a highly reliable enclosed compressor in which floating amount of refrigerating machine oil is suppressed. The induction motor comprises a stator having a winding inserted into a plurality of stator slots formed along the inner circumferential edge of the stator core, and a rotor (11) arranged on the inside of the stator through an air gap. The rotor (11) has a plurality of double squirrel-cage rotor slots formed along the outer circumferential edge of the rotor core (11a) and filled with a conductive material, and three or more vents (11b) provided on the periphery of the rotating shaft hole (31) of the rotor core (11a) for fitting the rotating shaft (50) and opening to the rotating shaft hole (31) wherein the inside diameter portion of an end ring (32) for shorting the opposite ends of the conductive material filling the double squirrel-cage rotor slot (30) is arranged in proximity to the vent (11b) in at least the end ring (32) on one side.
