The device has a display (1) e.g. twisted nematic-LCD (TN-LCD), fastened or fastenable in the interior of a motor vehicle. Lighting is generated surrounding the display by a lighting device (5). A control device (2) is provided for controlling the lighting produced by the lighting device. The lighting is temporally changed in a circumferential direction of the display and is temporally changed in a radial direction towards the display and/or from the display. The lighting device exhibits light sources, which are arranged around the display in a matrix fashion. An independent claim is also included for a method for displaying information by a display device with a display.
