[Also in Divisions B7 and G3] A jack comprises two simultaneously operable coaxial screw and nut assemblies, 7, 5 and 8, 6, operable so that two displaceable elements (e.g. the non-rotating screws 7, 8) both extend or retract by equal amounts from the jack. In the embodiment illustrated a fixed housing 1 contains a tubular member 2 rotated through gearing 27 and 23, 28 and 24 by two motors 25, 26. The ends 5, 6 of the member 2 are tapped with threads of equal pitch but of opposite hand one to the other, and engage the screws 7, 8 which are prevented from rotating by grooves in collars 11, 12 engaging splines in extensions 9, 10 of the housing. The jack may be mounted in a variable geometry aircraft to control the wing position (see Division B7). The hydraulic motors 25, 26 may be controlled by a member 52 and a servomechanism. |
