The space between a wall 1 and a panelled facing is sealed, as at 10, along the upper and lateral margins and around window openings in the wall 1, at least one opening 12 being provided between the lower marginal portions of the facing and the wall to maintain communication between the space and the outer atmosphere. The panels 7, each of which comprises a heat insulating core 7a having a structurally strong watertight covering 7b at least over its outer and edge faces, have sealing means 10 therebetween which may be formed of soft elastic material covered by a separate or integrally formed weather resistant strip 11. The sealing means 10 may be applied against as in Fig. 2, or sandwiched between a's in Fig. 4, flanges such as 11a parellel to the plane of the panel. The panels may be secured by spacers 8 having mating male and female parts 8a, 8b secured respectively to the wall 1 and panels 7 which are secured together for a selected spacing by settable or hardenable filler material within 'the female cavity. In a modification the panels have wall-engaging V-shaped flanges 24, Fig. 14 along the top and two vertical sides. Further modified forms of panel, Fig. 15 (not shown) and Fig. 16, are secured by support members 31 secured to the wall and each having a head portion which is embedded in putty or mortar 33 in a cavity 29 in the panel.</p> |
