The switch is normally open. When an over voltage occurs, surge diverter 4 breaks down, and induces a voltage pulse in transformer 7, which causes fast switch 8 to close. A second surge diverter 9 may be shunted across the reactor 3 to prevent over voltages when the reactor 3 is brought into or out of circuit. |
