In a golf driving target (112) comprising pockets (150, 138) suspended from cables (146, 176), the pockets have walls (162, 165) which are shaped to direct received balls quickly to an exit (166), and are fitted with apertured formers (141, 142) to hold the pockets open. The walls may have an upper vertical region and a lower inclined region. Between the exits (166) of the pockets and a common receptacle, the balls, which are coded, pass code-reading devices for identification. The pockets may have internal ball-directing baffle members (163, 167).
