PURPOSE: A method and an apparatus for protecting a file in direct printing are provided to increase user convenience by performing an encoding and a decoding of a password. CONSTITUTION: A direct printing system comprises a first device(210), a printing device(220), and a second apparatus(230). A first device comprises an interface unit(211) and an encryption unit(213). The printing device comprises the interface unit(221), a key generation part(223), and a decoder(225), and an output unit(227). A second apparatus comprises the interface unit(231) and an encryption unit(233). The interface unit transmits the encrypted file to an external device. The interface unit receives the encryption key from the external device. The encryption unit ciphers a password of the encrypted file by using the encryption key. The interface unit transmits the encrypted password to the external device.
