PURPOSE: A defect detection apparatus and method for a printer head are provided to improve the inspection efficiency by determining defects based on the quality factor according to the oscillation frequency of the printer head. CONSTITUTION: A defect detection apparatus comprises an oscillation control unit(110), a displacement measuring unit(120), and a determining unit(130). The oscillation control unit provides AC power source of fixed voltage level for oscillation to a driver(B). The displacement measuring unit measures the displacement of the driver based on one side of a printer head(A). The determining unit performs Fourier transform of the displacement measured by the displacement measuring unit and determines defects according to the Fourier-transformed frequency value.
