PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of improving operation stability while maintaining print quality by making reflective scattered light hard to influence synchronous detection. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes a synchronous counter (f) for synchronizing video signals for controlling laser scanning and blinking; a laser detecting device for detecting the incidence of laser to obtain timing used as the reference of the synchronous counter (f); a control device 5 periodically placed in a laser receiving state to update the reference timing of the synchronous counter (f); an incident time counter (a) for counting a continuous incident time of laser to the laser detecting device; an incident time storage device (d) for holding the incident time of laser incident for the longest time during the laser receiving time; and a timing counter (e) for holding the elapsed time from the incidence of laser. The value of the timing counter (e) is set to the synchronous counter (f) at the end of receiving laser.
