PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading apparatus capable of avoiding operation from being disabled until the end of read processing in a case where a document read starting operation is performed in an error state. SOLUTION: When an operating means 101 is operated for performing a starting operation for read processing of an image, in an image reading apparatus 1, the read processing is controlled by an information processing device 2 connected via a communication cable 103. Then, the image reading apparatus 1 determines whether it is an error state or not and in a case where the error state is determined, the operation of the operating means 101 is invalidated. In a case where a transmission request of information for confirming whether or not the operating means 101 is operated is received from the information processing device 2, it is determined whether or not the operating means 101 is invalidated; and in a case where it is determined that the operating means 101 is invalidated, the operating means 101 reports an operation invalidated state.
