<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reliably assign an application to an effective function key, in an image forming apparatus having a function for selecting a desired application from a plurality of applications. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus is configured so as to mount a plurality of applications thereon and so as to have a means for displaying a picture forced to select an application in the operation displaying unit of the apparatus and a means for assigning the selected application to a function key when the function key is pressed down to the selected application.
