<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve increased precision and life extension of record reproduction by suppressing induction of wearing of a magnetic head or a protective film. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The device extracts a specific frequency range (for example 50-250 kHz) which includes an inherent oscillating frequency of an HSA (head stack assembly) 20 (for example 110 kHz) and does not include air film inherent oscillating frequencies (270 kHz or 295 kHz, etc.) in the state that a magnetic head is floating to a magnetic disk, from a detected signal detected by an AE sensor 80 which detects oscillation of the HSA 20. Accordingly, contact of the magnetic head with the protective film of the magnetic disks 12A and 12B can be detected with high degree of accuracy based on the signal of the specific frequency range. Increased precision and life extension of record reproduction can be achieved by suppressing induction of wearing of the magnetic head or the protective film, since contact of the magnetic head with the protective film can also be avoided.
