PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus for automatically suppressing occurrence of a failure such as image failure or a paper jam even if an unexpected kind of printing paper is supplied. SOLUTION: A printer sequentially switches a parameter (gain value) to a plurality of predetermined values at a certain interval since conveyed paper reaches a conveyance roller, and calculates, as rotation irregularity, the highest value of the rotation speed difference of a conveyance motor for driving the conveyance roller in each of periods I, II, III, IV. The printer 1 determines the optimal gain value by setting the gain value in the period when the speed difference is the lowest, among the highest values of the rotation speed difference in respective periods, as a gain value at which the rotation irregularity of the conveyance roller is the smallest, and employs it as the parameter in subsequent feedback control.
