PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus which ensures satisfactory exposure for the image in each partial region while maintaining a frame rate of the entire input image, its photography method, and a program. SOLUTION: The imaging apparatus having an image pickup device is constituted so that an exposure state of the entire input image to be input via the image pickup device is detected, a plurality of partial regions are set to the input image, the exposure state is detected in each of the set partial regions, diaphragm is controlled by mechanical control based on a detection result of the exposure state of the entire input image, and brightness of the input image is controlled by electronic control based on difference of exposure state detection values to be calculated from a detection result of the exposure state of the entire input image and a detection result of the exposure state of each of the partial regions.
