<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a belt type continuously variable transmission capable of enhancing drivability. Ž<P>SOLUTION: This belt type continuously variable transmission includes a hydraulic oil supply/discharge valve 70 which is installed in a hydraulic oil supply/discharge passage, which is opened when hydraulic oil is supplied into one clamping force generating hydraulic pressure chamber 55 or hydraulic oil is discharged from the one clamping force generating hydraulic pressure chamber 55 and is closed when a reduction gear ratio is fixed, and which is rotated integrally with one pulley 50, and a valve opening/closing control means 80 for controlling the opening/closing of the hydraulic oil supply/discharge valve 70. A valve closing response time which is a period in which the hydraulic oil supply/discharge valve 70 is moved from the opened state to the closed state by the valve opening/closing control means 80 is set to a period longer than a valve opening response period which is a period in which the hydraulic oil supply/discharge valve is moved from the closed state to the opened state.
