ALUMINUM-SILICON CARBIDE COMPOSITE AND METHOD FOR PRODUCING THE SAME

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an aluminum-silicon carbide composite suitable as a base plate for a power module.

SOLUTION: A method for producing the plate-shaped aluminum-silicon carbide composite having 2-6 mm thickness includes the steps of: mixing 20-40 vol.% metal powder containing 77-94.5 mass% aluminum, 5-20 mass% silicon and 0.5-3 mass% magnesium with 60-80 vol.% silicon carbide powder having 50-300 μm average particle size; packing the obtained mixture in a mold which is subjected to mold-release treatment; heating the packed mixture to 600-750°C; and subjecting the heated mixture to hot press molding under ≥10 MPa.
