<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To define multiple kinds of keyboard IDs in a notebook personal computer and its keyboard controller. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The keyboard controller 11 is coupled to a keyboard matrix 10 having a plurality of vertical connecting cables, a keyboard identification connecting cable and a plurality of lateral connecting cables. The vertical connecting cables and lateral connecting cables intersect to form a plurality of first intersection points 15, and the keyboard identification connecting cable and lateral connecting cables intersect to form a plurality of second intersection points 16. The first intersection points 15 and second intersection points 16 have switches 17 respectively, and the switch states of the second intersection points 16 define the keyboard IDs. The keyboard controller 11 includes a first set of pins 100-115 connected to the vertical connecting cables, a second set of pins 200-207 connected to the lateral connecting cables, and a keyboard identification output pin 300 connected to the keyboard identification connecting cable to receive the switch states of the second intersection points 16.
