<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high-performance semiconductor memory controller, a high-performance semiconductor memory system, and a recording/reproducing method for the high-performance semiconductor memory system. <P>SOLUTION: A memory section 10 includes memory cells 10A, each of which enters a recording state having a threshold voltage corresponding to data. When an inversion section 15 performs data string inversion processing so as to increase the number of memory cells 10A of a predetermined state based on the measurement of a counter section 14 during recording, a flag added to the data string indicates that the inversion processing has been performed.
